During the winter months, the sunlight is not enough for us in the northern latitudes to be able to form vitamin D. The form of the vitamin that is formed when we are in the sun is cholecalciferol, and another name for cholecalciferol is D3, which is also the form found in the supplement. D3 is a fat-soluble vitamin and should be taken with some form of fat/food. In the body, D3 contributes to the normal absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorus, to maintaining normal bone structure, normal calcium levels in the blood, normal muscle function and normal function of the immune system.
